Limestone is the perfect stone for today’s lifestyle of casual and comfort. The muted tones come in soft beiges and tans which are honed and filled, natural with pits in them or polished. Limestone is perfect for bathrooms, fireplaces, counter tops and less traveled areas.
Limestone is of sedimentary origin and it made of primarily of calcium carbonate or the double carbonate of calcium and magnesium or a combination of these two minerals. Limestone is classified as Low Density, Medium Density, or High Density. Recrystallized limestones, compact microcrystalline limestones, and travertines that are capable of taking a polish can be marketed as either limestone or marble.
Limestone is a sedimentary stone that are formed at the bottom of the sea and lakes, out of the organic matter of small plants, marine shells or skeletons preserved as fossils which fall the bottom of the sea or lakes, and through the ages heat and pressure causes a chemical reaction to seal the layers of stuff together to make solid stone.
Limestone has a hardness rating from 3 to 7 on the MOHS scale which makes is great for most areas of the home.
Limestone need to be sealed with a penetrating sealer because it is subject to etching and penetrating stains.
